ANA Contract Gives Green Light For Eco-Savings
One of Japan's leading airlines has just reinforced its commitment to the environment by placing a significant order for the world's first de-icing fluid based on glycol from a
sustainable source.
ANA has confirmed the order for DFsustain with Kanto Chemical Ind., official licensee for the
Kilfrost range of innovative de-icing and anti-icing fluids, after a trial last winter season.
"We're delighted that ANA has taken on DFsustain as it has the potential to further reduce the
airline's carbon footprint" explained Kilfrost's Chief Executive Gary Lydiate. "It's a world-first
fluid and truly leads the way in terms of both green credentials and efficacy."
Developed using a corn sugar-based glycol called Susterra® Propanediol, created by
DuPont Tate and Lyle Bio Products, DFsustain has the potential to use up to 40% less energy
in manufacturing than more traditional fluids. And in performance tests, the fluid was
effective at temperatures as low as -40°C.
"We congratulate Kilfrost on the continued success of DFsustain", stated Steve Mirshak,
President, DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products. "ANA's decision continues to demonstrate that
products based on rapidly renewable resources can deliver the high performance that meets
the needs of the marketplace."
The ANA group set out a Group Ecology Plan which includes a carbon offset programme,
reduce-reuse-recycle initiatives, and participation in the research and development of
biofuels.
